Member Highlight: The Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia

Please join us in congratulating The Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia as our highlighted member of the New Jersey Energy Coalition! Below is more information about The Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia.

The Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia brings area businesses and civic leaders together to promote growth and create opportunity in our region. Our members represent eleven counties, three states, and roughly 600,000 employees from thousands of member companies and organizations.

The Chamber’s work occurs through industry-specific initiatives, convening business leaders across sectors of critical importance to our region’s economy. The Chamber’s first and longest-standing industry initiative, the Greater Philadelphia Energy Action Team (GPEAT), comprises energy leaders across the 11-county region committed to promoting affordable energy solutions and advancing energy-enabled economic growth to stimulate business expansion and job creation in Greater Philadelphia.

Our region’s industrial legacy, talent, and strategic location matched with an increased supply of affordable energy can position Greater Philadelphia to attract new high-wage manufacturing opportunities. As part of realizing this potential, GPEAT has launched a multi-year economic development strategy focused on retaining existing businesses, growing high-wage jobs, and positioning the region as a leader in future chemical manufacturing growth.

GPEAT has recently completed an independent analysis focused on identifying the chemical industry segments with the most significant potential for growth and expansion to inform targeted business retention and attraction strategy. The research has revealed that our region has strong existing clusters across plastic products, personal care products, paints & coatings, pharmaceutical prep chemicals, and basic chemical manufacturing.

Over the next year, GPEAT will gather information and resources targeting an audience of out-of-market businesses and site selectors, highlighting the advantages of locating chemical industry segments in the Greater Philadelphia region. GPEAT will also be working to engage our existing chemical industry to support retention and identify local expansion opportunities.

We recognize to remain competitive for these opportunities, we must continue to support policies and projects that provide Greater Philadelphia access to an abundant supply of affordable, low-carbon energy. GPEAT members work to build awareness with stakeholders and policymakers about the importance of natural gas as a cost-effective pathway for carbon reduction in the Greater Philadelphia region.

This spring, GPEAT will release a fact-based publication around the role of natural gas utilities in a sustainable energy future. The publication will feature a set of aggregated metrics from the natural gas utilities serving over 2.1 million customers in 56 counties across three states and showcases those companies’ collective efforts in energy conservation, emissions reduction, safety, and economic impact.

Alongside our ongoing initiatives, GPEAT regularly hosts briefings, small gatherings, and working groups to share regional industry updates, gather member insights, help foster collaboration and identify new partnerships across our membership.
