Please join us in congratulating New Jersey City University as our highlighted member of the New Jersey Energy Coalition! Below is more information about NJCU.

New Jersey City University (NJCU) is an institution of higher learning with an audacious goal: the development of our students, our city, our communities, our state, and the world beyond.

We are a game-changing force for our students and their families. Whether our students are enrolled in one of our 50 undergraduate programs or 30 graduate programs, NJCU provides an affordable, diverse environment, and an exceptionally supportive faculty. As a place that brings together people of all ages, places, and experiences, our students learn firsthand from classmates in an intercultural exchange that prepares them to be critical thinkers in a global landscape.

U.S. News & World Report ranked NJCU as the best public school in New Jersey for ethnic diversity. We are also home of the Debt-Free Promise. As one of the most affordable public four-year colleges in the state, NJCU is committed to making college accessible. Recognized as one of the top public colleges improving students’ upward economic mobility, NJCU is a great return on investment. Ten years after graduation, students earn 22% more than the national average income. Our students also earn national accolades. For several years in a row, NJCU was named a top producer of U.S. Fulbright students. Once students graduate, they become game changers in their own right, in fields ranging from music to nursing and media to education. We enable students to thrive as scholars and professionals.

Our academic schools and colleges consistently provide NJCU students with a world-class, interdisciplinary education in well-established disciplines, but also in launching forward-looking academic programs. In 2019-20, we introduced many new programs, such as the first M.S. in Financial Technology in the state, a B. S. in Business Analytics and Data Science, a B.S. in Cyber Security Studies, and a M.S. in School Nursing with a Specialization in School Nursing.

We’re also changing the game for our city, our communities, and our state. A few short years ago we opened a state-of-the-art business school on the Hudson Waterfront—and with our help, soon Jersey City’s West side will be completely reimagined as a modern urban village that will include housing, retail, restaurants, and green public spaces.

As part of the West Side development and expanding on our history as a performing arts hub in Jersey City, NJCU will soon open an arts center that will be a destination for New Jersey residents. Named the Guarini Performing Arts Center in recognition of a generous donation from the former congressman, philanthropist and real estate developer Frank J. Guarini, the 56,00 square-foot theatrical showplace will make music, dance and theatre performances an even greater part of the fabric of the community. The center will feature a 468-seat performance space and serve as the cutting-edge academic complex for instruction in the performing arts. Upon completion of the center, the world-renowned Joffrey Ballet School will move its operations from New York City to NJCU. The dance school is currently in partnership with NJCU offering a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance and a Joffrey certificate. The development will continue with a visionary renovation and expansion of NJCU’s athletics facilities. At the centerpiece of this ambitious initiative will be a state-of-the-art, 131,000 square-foot center that will integrate athletic, fitness, healthcare, eSports, dining, entertainment and education spaces in a single facility.

This new athletics renovation will be a fitting home for NJCU athletics. The Gothic Knights are one of the fastest-growing athletics programs in the country, and the largest in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. We offer 21 varsity sport programs, including the recently announced additions of eSports, men’s wrestling, men’s and women’s tennis, women’s golf—and are the first university in New Jersey to sponsor women’s wrestling.

Building on our efforts to offer degree-completion programs for students in southern New Jersey on the campuses of Brookdale Community College, Ocean County College, Middlesex County College, and Mercer County Community College, NJCU will begin offering undergraduate and graduate degree completion programs at the Jersey Shore at historic Fort Monmouth. The new location will open in the fall of 2021.

We’re just getting started. At NJCU, we’re not just educating minds, we’re nourishing souls and lifting communities. We’re changing the game.
