Member Highlight: MANCON

Please join us in congratulating MANCON as our highlight member of the New Jersey Energy Coalition! Below is more information about MANCON.

MANCON is a diversified business that provides support to Federal and State agencies, local governments, commercial customers and non-profit organizations.  MANCON operates in just over 130 locations providing supplies and services to nearly 1,200 customers.  MANCON has established vendor relationships with more than 8,000 suppliers to support the inventory requirements of our customer base.  Headquartered in Virginia Beach VA, MANCON employs 500 professionals in three business operating units to support customers: Supply Chain Management; Industrial and Commercial Supplies, and Federal Services.

As a provider of supplies and services to Federal agencies, MANCON is required to follow specific statutes to be in compliance with government regulations.  In order to safeguard customer data and maintain IT/OT system security, MANCON has implemented Information and Operational Technology practices to follow the rigorous cybersecurity standards established by the US Federal Government.  MANCON adheres to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) protocols to ensure employee safety in the workplace.  MANCON also actively pursues Small Business Administration designated small businesses and Minority Business Enterprises (MBEs) to partner with on our contract engagements.

MANCON’s founder was a career Navy logistician who, for 24 years, was involved with providing parts to Navy ships, nuclear submarines, airplanes, and vehicles. After retiring from the Navy to civilian life in 1983, it was a natural transition to start a business focused on supplying repair parts to organizations performing heavy equipment maintenance. As the business for parts and supply purchases increased, MANCON recognized the growing demand for providing third party services and staffing to maintenance activities.

With the award of the Virginia Department of Transportation Integrated Supply Services Program (ISSSP) contract in 2002, Supply Chain Management (SCM) services became a significant contributor to MANCON’s business.  MANCON has steadily increased its presence in the SCM industry and is now a recognized leader for Third Party Logistics (3PL) services across the nation.  As a full-service provider of commodities in multiple industries, MANCON has allowed the activities we support to better focus on their core business functions and save procurement dollars rather than spending resources and time sourcing material.  MANCON currently provides SCM services to a diverse group of customers using a vast array of materials, parts, and supplies.  Some of MANCON’s customers include Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP); U.S. Department of Homeland Security; PECO Energy (formerly Philadelphia Electric Company) Fleet Maintenance; New Jersey Department of Transportation; and New Castle County, Delaware.

For organizations seeking to outsource their inventory management requirements, MANCON will establish supply operations and employ SCM personnel internally within customer locations.  In the past twenty years, over 100 customers have transitioned their supply chain operations to MANCON’s SCM Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) solution.  MANCON’s VMI service relieves customers of investment in parts inventory, reduces overall operating and material costs, improves availability of material that increases productivity of technicians, and decreases asset repair turn-around time.  Since MANCON is not a manufacturer, we provide customers with the materials they want, and source products from suppliers that provide them with the greatest value.

To serve the needs of organizations seeking to increase efficiencies and value in their supply requirements but are not large enough to warrant a total outsource solution, MANCON has expanded our SCM offerings to include consulting services.  MANCON’s SCM experts can analyze and optimize an inventory operation to ensure material is available when needed without excessive carrying costs.  MANCON’s standard practices for evaluating and applying operational changes include – storage infrastructure reconfiguration, transparency of material on hand, establishment of optimal reorder levels, and development of Standard Operating Procedures.  After the initial transformation has been accomplished, MANCON can provide periodic evaluations of inventory processes to determine if adjustments to procedures are necessary.

Quality SCM is essential to the success of inventory management.  MANCON’s SCM solutions ensure customers have availability to inventory and avoid unnecessary interruptions to their operations.  As new and innovative products are introduced into the marketplace, MANCON will remain flexible to expand our sources of supplies and meet customer driven requirements for materials, quality, and price point preferences for each inventory application.
