April Member Highlight: PSEG

Please join us in congratulating PSEG as our April highlighted member of the New Jersey Energy Coalition! Below is more information about PSEG.

At PSEG, we understand that our customers depend on us to provide electricity and gas to power their homes, their businesses and their lives – whether it’s in the face of extreme weather or through an unprecedented health crisis like the coronavirus pandemic we’re experiencing today.

The health and safety of our employees, our customers and our communities will always be our priority.

When it comes to the well-being of the communities we serve, PSEG has taken a number of steps to support our customers and our workforce during these challenging times. Here’s just some of the steps we’re taking:

For customers

  • PSE&G and PSEG Long Island are supporting customers affected by the outbreak’s economic impacts by suspending residential shut-offs for non-payment. We closed our customer service centers and suspended all non-essential repair, service and construction work – especially those jobs that required us to enter customers’ homes. We continue to respond to emergency calls for service outages or safety concerns.
  • PSEG is continuing to work with partners in government and emergency management, and monitoring guidance provided by federal, state and local agencies for social distancing and personal protective equipment. Employees in the field have the necessary PPE, and are following training and protocols to ensure that they and our customers remain safe and healthy.
  • As the summertime storm season approaches, we have moved critical equipment into strategic positions around our service territories, and adjusted field employees’ schedules and work locations to ensure we have the personnel to respond to storm damage – even in the face of virus-related protocol changes.
  • We have found creative solutions to customer service issues. For example, our newly developed WorryFree Tech-Talk program features appliance service technicians, working from home, helping customers solve non-essential maintenance and repair issues by phone.

For communities

  • The PSEG Foundation committed $2.5 million to provide health, social and economic support to those hardest hit by the pandemic – including a $1 million signature grant to the NJ Pandemic Relief Fund and contributions to food banks to address growing food insecurity. The PSEG Foundation is the distinct and separate philanthropic arm of PSEG.
  • Earlier, PSEG donated 50,000 N95 respirator masks and 200,000 pairs of nitrile gloves from our own supplies to medical personnel on the front lines of our coronavirus response.
  • We are sponsoring and supporting a COVID-19 testing site in South Jersey. We’re also supporting hospitals and other critical care facilities by bolstering service as they expand to serve more patients and by proactively inspecting infrastructure to help eliminate potential power interruptions.

For employees

  • We activated our Remote Work Initiative in early March, which means that all employees who are able to work from home are doing so – a majority of our workforce. Those whose functions cannot be performed remotely have been provided with appropriate PPE, trained to follow social distancing guidelines and, where possible, had operations adjusted to reduce interaction and close contact.
  • In addition to safeguarding our employees and their families, PSEG also has provided opportunities to boost personal contributions to organizations in our community through a 2-for-1 company match and an expansion of our volunteerism programs to include organizations addressing needs related to COVID-19.
  • The PSEG Foundation increased its contribution to the PSEG Employee Crisis Fund, which provides support to PSEG employees or eligible dependents for catastrophic life events – including those related to the pandemic.

Electricity and gas are essential services that keep our homes, businesses and institutions running – especially in challenging times such as these – and PSEG is committed to doing everything we can to ensure our customers have the energy they need, without interruption.
