Federal Energy Update with FERC Commissioner Richard Glick

On June 11, 2019, members and guests of the New Jersey Energy Coalition were given the opportunity to hear from Federal Energy Regulatory Commissioner Richard Glick.

The event began with NJBPU Commissioner Bob Gordon introducing Commissioner Glick, and informing the audience about some of the Commissioner’s accomplishments before and during his current term at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). Commissioner Glick was nominated by President Trump, and was confirmed by the Senate on November 2, 2017.

Commissioner Glick’s comments began with a recent history of what has been happening at the Commission. He discussed the need to fill the open seat left by the late Chairman Kevin McIntyre. He also mentioned that Commissioner LaFleur will not be seeking another term, and her current term will end at the end of June. Commissioner LaFleur has the ability to stay in office until her predecessor is selected, if President Trump decides to put a name up for nomination.

The following are the major topics that Commissioner Glick discussed;

  • The importance of eliminating barriers for new technology;
  • Finding a way to allow DER onto the electric grid;
  • Electric transmission investment;
  • Natural gas pipeline certificates;
  • State energy policies and their influence on the market;
  • FERC Order #1000;
  • The fairly recent MOPR decision;
  • Cybersecurity investment

Commissioner Glick also informed the guests of the upcoming Technical Conference regarding reliability of the bulk-power system (Docket No. AD19-13-000).

Thank you again to the Commissioner for joining the New Jersey Energy Coalition!
