Supporters Voice Need For New Gas Pipeline To BL England Generating Station

WINSLOW, NJ – JUNE 2, 2015- Elected officials, business groups, and building trades all met this Tuesday in support of the proposed South Jersey Gas Cape May -Atlantic County Reliability Pipeline Project. Hosted by Plumbers and Pipefitters LU 322, the press conference comes just after South Jersey Gas submitted an amended application to the New Jersey Pinelands Commission for the 22 mile, 24 inch high-pressure gas pipeline project.

NJEC officials attended the press conference and pledged the Coalition’s full support for the project. South Jersey Gas Senior VP of Engineering & System Integrity, Bob Fatzinger, expressed his appreciation for the Coalition’s support, stating “South Jersey Gas greatly appreciates the backing of broad-based groups such as NJEC, and is committed to working with all stakeholders to complete this important reliability project.”

The proposed pipeline will be used to transmit clean-burning natural gas to refuel the BL England Generating Facility located in BeesleysPoint , which is in danger of shutting down. With the Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station set to decommission in 2019, the repowered BL England station is key to ensuring the electric reliability of the region. The Cape May-Atlantic County Reliability pipeline will also help to provide improved reliability of natural gas service to the region, which has become ever more critical in the aftermath of events like those of Super Storm Sandy. South Jersey Gas has approximately 142,000 commercial and residential customers at-risk in the Atlantic and Cape May counties, stressing the need for energy delivery redundancy.
