In-Person Discussion with NJ Majority Leader Assemblyman Louis Greenwald – April 19, 2023

On Wednesday, April 19th, the New Jersey Energy Coalition had an in-person discussion with NJ Majority Leader Assemblyman Louis Greenwald. Assemblyman Greenwald lead the discussion with questions relating to the budget and different solutions and policies that are proposed. Along with this were questions and additional information regarding EVs, and the advancement of those technologies. 

Virtual Discussion with NJ State Senator Declan O’Scanlon – March 22, 2023

On Wednesday, March 22nd, the New Jersey Energy Coalition had a virtual discussion with Senator Declan O’Scanlon. Senator O’Scanlon is on multiple committees, and discussed the budget for energy in New Jersey, the prioritization of education, and solar.

In-Person Panel Discussion: “Building Resilience in Energy & Water” – March 1, 2023

On Wednesday, March 1st, the New Jersey Energy Coalition had a in-person panel discussion with keynote speaker NJBPU President Fiordaliso, and Commissioner Holden as moderator. Panelists included Mark McDonough, Armando Johnson, Olaf Olsen, and Lathrop Craig. This discussion focused on how to build and expand resilience in energy and water.

Virtual Discussion with NJ State Senator Douglas Steinhardt – February 21, 2023

On Tuesday, February 21st, the New Jersey Energy Coalition had a virtual discussion with NJ State Senator Douglas Steinhardt, a member of the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee. The Senator discussed the Energy Master Plan, grid security, and access to clean energy for residents in New Jersey

On Friday, January 13th, the New Jersey Energy Coalition had a virtual discussion with Congressman Frank Pallone. This discussion focused on renewable energy resources, grid security, and the Energy Master Plan.

Legislative Discussion with New Jersey Assemblyman Raj Mukherji and Assemblywoman Beth Sawyer – May 24, 2022

On Tuesday, May 24th, New Jersey Assemblyman Raj Mukherji and Assemblywoman Beth Sawyer joined us for a legislative discussion moderated by Rebecca Freed (Partner – Genova Burns). The discussion focused on the role of the legislature in NJ’s clean energy economy, future updates to the Energy Master Plan, affordability for ratepayers, and upgrading New Jersey’s aging infrastructure.

NJ Clean Energy Economy: Taking Stock and Looking Ahead – April 12, 2022

On Tuesday, April 12th, the New Jersey Energy Coalition hosted a panel discussion on New Jersey’s clean energy economy. The panel discussion was moderated by Rebecca Freed (Partner – Genova Burns) and included New Jersey Board of Public Utilities Commissioner Bob Gordon, Richmond Young (Director, Development – Rise Light & Power), Madeline Urbish (Head of Government Affairs & Policy for New Jersey – Orsted) and Mark Kahrer (Senior Vice President – Regulatory Affairs, Marketing, and Energy Efficiency). The panel focused on the future of solar energy, offshore wind, and electric vehicles and included discussions on workforce development, environmental justice, and the future of green hydrogen.

Virtual Grid Reliability and Energy Resources – February 25, 2022

On Friday, February 25th, the NJEC held a Grid Reliability and Energy Resources panel discussion. The panel discussion, moderated by Rebecca Freed (Partner – Genova Burns), included New Jersey Board of Public Utilities President Joe Fiordaliso, Stu Bresler (SVP of Market Services – PJM), and Ralph LaRossa (Chief Operating Officer – PSEG). Topics of discussion included enhancing aging energy infrastructure, the intersection of reliability and affordability for consumers, and the roles of decarbonization and hydrogen.

On Tuesday, February 1st, New Jersey Senator Andrew Zwicker joined us for a Legislative Update. Senator Zwicker discussed topics including the future of fusion and the roles of nuclear energy, small modular reactors, and hydrogen.

2022 Virtual Energy Outlook with U.S. Congressman Frank Pallone – January 7, 2022

On Friday, January 7th, U.S. Congressman Frank Pallone joined us for a 2022 Energy Outlook event focused on the upcoming year. Congressman Pallone discussed the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill Deal and the Build Back Better Act. The discussion included topics such as tax incentives and funding opportunities for NJ utilities, the future of renewable energy and nuclear energy, the clean energy economy in 2022, and funding for water infrastructure.

Virtual Critical Resiliency in the Clean Energy Future – December 6, 2021

On Monday, December 6th, the NJEC hosted a Critical Resiliency in the Clean Energy Future panel discussion, moderated by Rebecca Freed (Partner – Genova Burns) and with panelists New Jersey Board of Public Utilities Commissioner Dianne Solomon, Steve Westhoven (President and CEO – New Jersey Resources), Steve Elliott (Director, Business Development and Marketing – Enbridge) and Janice Fuller (President, Mid-Atlantic – Anbaric). The panel focused on the future role of hydrogen and renewable natural gas, highlighting the importance of resiliency and redundancy within the energy grid, and energy storage and transmission.

Virtual Legislative Update with New Jersey Senator Michael Testa – November 22, 2021

On Monday, November 22nd, New Jersey Senator Michael Testa joined us for a Legislative Update. Senator Testa discussed the goals of New Jersey’s Energy Master Plan, the role of renewable natural gas in New Jersey, the need for public hearings on issues of cybersecurity in utilities, and growing New Jersey’s state economy and workforce.

Virtual Workforce Development Summit – October 13, 2021

On Wednesday, October 13th, the NJEC hosted a Workforce Development Summit. The program began with New Jersey Board of Public Utilities President Joe Fiordaliso giving opening remarks followed by a panel discussion moderated by Rebecca Freed (Partner – Genova Burns) with Jen Becker (Managing Director, Wind Institute Development – New Jersey Economic Development Authority), Dave Daly (Executive Advisor – PSE&G), and Dr. Michael Edmondson (Dean, Professional Education and Lifelong Learning; Dean, College of Professional Studies – New Jersey City University). The panel focused on highlighting current emerging jobs within the energy and utility sectors, the future of evolving careers within those sectors given the future of new technology and climate change, diversifying the workforce, and training programs for future students.

Virtual Fall Energy Update with NJBPU Commissioner Bob Gordon – September 22, 2021

On Wednesday, September 22nd, the New Jersey Energy Coalition hosted a Fall Energy Update with New Jersey Board of Public Utilities Commissioner Bob Gordon. The update focused on vehicle electrification initiatives, efforts to prepare the energy grid to meet offshore wind requirements set out in the New Jersey Energy Master Plan, and the future role of nuclear energy.

Virtual Emergency Preparedness and Energy Reliability Panel Discussion – July 15, 2021

On Thursday, July 15th, the New Jersey Energy Coalition hosted an Emergency Preparedness and Energy Reliability panel discussion moderated by Rebecca Freed (Partner – Genova Burns). Panelists included New Jersey Board of Public Utilities Commissioner Mary-Anna Holden, Gary Stockbridge (Region President – Atlantic City Electric), Mark McDonough (President – New Jersey American Water), and Kim Hanemann (President and Chief Operating Officer – PSE&G). The panel focused on discussions about the increased collaboration and partnerships between local municipalities, utilities, and the state when combatting emergencies, post COVID-19 initiatives, and long-tern changes to energy reliability and resiliency, as well as the role of cybersecurity and renewable energy.

Virtual National Energy and Utility Policy Discussion with NARUC President Paul Kjellander and Executive Director Greg White – June 16, 2021

On Wednesday, June 16th, NARUC President Paul Kjellander and Executive Director Greg White joined us for a discussion on national energy and utility policy. President Kjellander and Director White discussed NARUC’s current goals and history, solar and dual-use solar energy, and the future of renewable energy, natural gas, and nuclear energy.

Virtual Legislative Update with New Jersey Speaker Craig Coughlin – May 24, 2021

On Monday, May 24th, New Jersey Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin joined us for a Legislative Update. Speaker Coughlin discussed initiatives and programs such as New Jersey’s commitment to offshore wind energy, the New Jersey state economy and workforce, as well as storm reliability and preparedness.

Virtual Energy Security in 2021 with New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness Director Jared Maples – April 28, 2021

On Wednesday, April 28th, NJ Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness Director Jared Maples joined us for an Energy Security in 2021 discussion. Director Maples discussed initiatives and programs such as the NJ Shield Initiative and the NJ Kick program, the role of cybersecurity in the remote workforce, and the need for a comprehensive federal strategy.

On Tuesday, March 16th, NJ Economic Development Authority CEO Tim Sullivan joined us for an economic update. Topics of discussion included the role of the NJEDA in workforce development initiatives, community revitalization, and NJ wind ports.

Virtual Series: PJM 202 – February 18, 2021

On Thursday, February 18th, the NJEC hosted a PJM 202 event with a panel discussion. Panelists include New Jersey Board of Public Utilities President Joe Fiordaliso, Asim Haque (Vice President, State Policy and Member Services – PJM), Jason Barker (Director, Wholesale Market Development – Exelon) and will be moderated by Rebecca Freed (Partner – Genova Burns). Topics of discussion included the NJ state agreement approach, job creation in a post-COVID economy, and the involvement of the DEP and ensuring related environmental safety.

On Monday, August 10th, representatives from the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities and PJM Interconnection joined us for our Summer Virtual Series. NJBPU President Joe Fiordaliso gave opening remarks, followed by a panel discussion moderated by Rebecca Freed (Partner – Genova Burns) with Asim Haque (VP of State and Member Services at PJM) and Cynthia Holland (Director of Federal and Regional Policy – NJBPU) to introduce PJM and its role in energy in New Jersey, with topics including MOPR and advanced infrastructure to deal with severe storms.

Assemblyman Greenwald discussed the need for a comprehensive data driven plan driven by benchmarks for determining when and how businesses and universities are able to reopen, the need for a reliable and diverse energy portfolio to ensure energy remains affordable for consumers, potential testing requirements and safety precautions that businesses and universities could take when reopening, and refocusing the Energy Master Plan to stabilize and grow the state economy after COVID-19.

On Tuesday, May 12th, New Jersey Board of Public Utilities President Joe Fiordaliso joined us for the second installment of our Virtual Series. President Fiordaliso discussed the progress of an Energy Efficiency Program, a new program aimed at promoting electric vehicles and electrifying NJ Transit, continuing offshore wind projects, rebuilding infrastructure as a way to stimulate the economy after COVID-19, and cybersecurity.

Virtual Series with U.S. Congressman Frank Pallone – May 1, 2020

On Friday, May 1st, U.S. Congressman Frank Pallone, Chair of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, and his entire team joined us for the first installment of our Virtual Series. Congressman pallone discussed that the House is looking at introducing another stimulus bill, healthcare and the need for an increase in testing, pushing for a green initiative in the COVID-19 bills, and the biggest priority is to receive state aid.

Spring CEO Breakfast with Congressman Pallone – March 25, 2019

Congressman Frank Pallone, Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, spoke with NJEC Executive Board members at our Spring CEO Breakfast. It was a great and informative discussion which included infrastructure improvements, LIFT America Act, and climate change.

Economic Series: Natural Gas – February 20, 2019

The NJEC held the first installment of its Economic Series and featured two panel discussions as well as a guest speaker, New York State Public Service Commissioner and NARUC Gas Committee Chair Diane X. Burman. The first panel, “Natural Gas: The Bridge to a Clean Energy Future,” discussed the transition to New Jersey’s 2050 clean energy goals and what role natural gas plays in that transition. The second panel, “The Economic Value of Natural Gas,” discussed different aspects natural gas has on the economy including job creation, low cost of energy, and the impact it has on low-income communities.
