PJM Legislative Tour

On August 10th, the New Jersey Energy Coalition and PJM Interconnection co-hosted a Legislative tour of the PJM Headquarters in Audubon, PA. PJM is a Regional Transmission Organization (RTO) which operates the world’s largest electric transmission market. PJM operates this wholesale electricity grid to ensure reliability for the territory they oversee.  PJM coordinates the movement of electricity through all or parts of 13 different states, including the entirety of New Jersey.

The day began with an informative presentation given by Stephen Boyle, Director of Government Affairs for PJM Interconnection.  With a room full of legislators and legislative staff, the attendees were given a complete overview of one of the largest regional transmission organizations in the world-PJM Interconnection.  PJM staff and attendees then engaged in a lively Q&A session which proved beneficial in addressing issues and concerns relating to the energy industry in the garden state.

In addition to multiple presentations overviewing the RTO, attendees were given a tour of control room which is operated and manned 24/7 by trained experts. The event was a great success, with wonderful feedback provided from legislators and staff. The presentations and tour were exciting and informative and provided a rare glimpse into the every-day operations that help manage the grid for the Northeast region, and more.
