NJ Energy Coalition Year in Review

Thank you for a fantastic and dynamic year with the NJ Energy Coalition!

As we enter our 5th year, the Coalition continues to grow in visibility and membership. We have established the Coalition as a diverse, broad based coalition that is proactively helping to create New Jersey’s energy future. Throughout the year we were able to inform key stakeholders with the facts regarding the energy challenges facing our state. The Coalition and its membership were able to fulfill our mission to generate public support for the production and delivery of affordable, clean, reliable, American energy to help meet New Jersey's growing energy needs.

NJ Energy Coalition in 2012

In the coming year, the NJ Energy Coalition will continue to provide quality programming through our member events and speakers. Look for information on our upcoming Winter meeting and Coalition Activities. We will continue to educate and inform key NJ policy leaders on the importance of energy to the state's economy. Particularly, how prudent energy policy and projects can enhance the state's position as a creator of jobs and a driver of a thriving economy.

Coalition 2011 Activity

Below are some 2011 member highlights:

  • NJ Energy Coalition Winter Meeting in Trenton, NJ – February 2011
    Over 50 members and guests of the NJ Energy Coalition met for an informative discussion on environmental and energy issues in New Jersey. NJ Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Bob Martin was the guest speaker and provided insight on the current administration’s approach to energy policy. Following Martin’s comments, a panel of experts from various energy industry perspectives – renewable energy, utilities, environmental consulting and business – presented their views on a range of topics, including the forthcoming release of the revised NJ Energy Master Plan, the current legislative and regulatory climate, competitive energy markets and regulatory incentives.
  • NJ Energy Master Plan Hearings – June 2011, July 2011, August 2011
    On June 7, 2011, Governor Chris Christie and the NJ Board of Public Utilities released the 2011 Draft NJ Energy Master Plan (EMP) as the required 3-year update from the 2008 EMP. Representatives from the NJ Energy Coalition testified at three public hearings held in July and August to provide concise feedback and advice on the policy direction that the EMP set forth.
  • NJ Energy Master Plan comments - August 2011
    On August 25, 2011, the NJ Energy Coalition filed comments with the BPU, stressing the need for improving our electric and gas infrastructure, support for additional nuclear facilities, increased emphasis for energy efficiency and demand response and a rational long term approach to renewables.
  • NJ Energy Coalition Annual Meeting in Salem, NJ – September 2011
    The NJ Energy Coalition held its annual membership meeting at the PSEG Energy and Environmental Resource Center on September 15, 2011. Presentation topics included an update on Japan’s Fukushima plant, legislative and regulatory perspectives on the NJ EMP and an overview on smart grid infrastructure investment in NJ. The event featured President of PSEG Power Bill Levis, Board of Public Utilities Commissioner Joe Fiordaliso, Business Transformation Vice President of Pepco Holdings Karen Lefkowitz and Assemblyman Upendra Chivukula. t the meeting the NJ Energy Coalition presented its first Distinguished Achievement Award to the Honorable Upendra Chivukula, Chair of the Assembly Telecommunication and Utilities Committee, for his leadership on energy issues in New Jersey.
  • Testimony on capacity procurement and transmission planning– November 2011
    NJ Energy Coalition went on record to support competitive energy markets across the multi state PJM region. Where it is needed, we believe New Jersey subsidies should be limited to developing new technologies and encouraging innovation that benefits New Jersey consumers.
  • Southern New Jersey Energy Issues Seminar – December 2011
    The NJ Energy Coalition cosponsored the Southern New Jersey Development Council Energy and Environment Committee’s Energy Issues Seminar. Guest speakers included President of PSEG Power Bill Levis and the event was widely attended by Coalition membership.

The mission of the NJ Energy Coalition is to generate public support for the production and delivery of affordable, clean, reliable, American energy to help meet New Jersey's growing energy needs. The Coalition seeks to achieve this goal through increasing the public's awareness of the need to keep existing clean energy providers operational, to develop new affordable clean sources of in-state generation and to maintain a suitable transmission and distribution infrastructure for delivering electricity to our citizens.
